| Where do I start. (hold tight this is going to be a rant) It’s been over a month since I was under the Bahamian waters. Well any water for that matter (diving…yea yea). It was good to walk into Stuart Cove’s and see those smiling faces again. This particular dive, I planned to test a new camera set up. Those of you that know me, know I love underwater photo and video. However I also don’t want to spend thousands of dollars to get that perfect shot. Besides, every day is a learning day. So I had been using a dome for my GoPro and was impressed how well it actually worked. The biggest drawback then, is that you are committed to these wide shots. So if you come across something small, you are kinda hooped. And that bugged me. Robin had purchased a combo dome and while it has a trigger, there was no way to attach any lights. So wouldn’t solve my issue. While traveling to Oshkosh, I noticed a few people using the the GoPro Max lens – so after a quick search, I found that there was indeed an underwater housing for this mod. That just made the mind think more…. I wonder if there is a macro lens mod …. and sure enough there is. Mmmmmm, will it fit into my existing housing? (it does) So that would mean I need a tray that can hold both cameras and lights. My ideal solution was at my fingertips.
So how well did it work, you ask? Man, I was not happy when I initially looked at the photos after today’s dives. Now in all fairness – there is a very good chance of operator error involved, but still it was not what I was looking for. Then I saw it ….  You will not believe how relieved I was to get this shot. I had seen many and tried to photograph them all, but they never came out sharp and clear. This one photo changed my mind about the macro lens. The Max lens on the other hand did not live up to my expectations. In my eyes the dome port is a better and cheaper choice. How were the dives …. amazing. |
