So today’s dive did not go as planned. Not in a bad way, but in a different way. Actually in a refreshing way.  I must admit as an old diver you get set in your ways and sometimes things happen that make you look at this sport in a different way.  As I mentioned yesterday, one of the good things about diving with a company like Stuart Coves is that you always get to meet new and interesting people.  Well, today was no exception.  Across from me was a father (just snorkeling) and his two children.  We got chatting as the boat was a little slower than the rest in getting out there.  Turns out that his children were about to embark on their 3rd dive after certification.  They were a buddy team but the boat was rather full.  I mentioned to the dad that I would keep an eye on them.
The first dive of the day if you are traveling is the hardest.  Everything is new.  Boat, protocols, rental gear, dive conditions. All these things can add up to create a very stressful situation.  These two young adults handled it perfectly.  There were the usual first jitters when jumping in and getting used to the rental gear (especially the weights and mask).  However, their buoyancy control and calmness throughout both dives was amazing.  They obviously had some very good training.  That of course takes my mind off on another tangent, how important a good instructor is.  Fortunately, there are quite a few out there and from what I saw today – the future of diving is in good hands.  Well enough of this rant – hope you like the photos.  There are more on the second dive.
